In a relatively boring and egotistical press release, Microsoft lets us know that they’re the best. Are you ready for an block-quoted excerpt? We are!
Microsoft Corp. announced today that sales of Xbox 360 consoles have passed the 30 million mark globally, with its Xbox LIVE community swelling to more than 20 million active members. After the biggest year in its history in 2008, Xbox 360 achieved the highest percentage growth in hardware sales of any console so far in 2009, up 28 percent over the previous year.
Thirty mil is a significant milestone, without a doubt. The Xbox Live userbase is also pretty damn impressive according to these numbers.
I don’t think many would rebuke me when I say that the sales figures are well-deserved. Microsoft’s gaming division has gone all-out this generation securing exclusives, fine-tuning their online service, and catering to customers. On that note, I wonder how many of those 30 million units are replacement consoles?
