I hope everyone enjoyed the recent podcast containing our picks for this year’s best games. I think we’ve done a good job despite the absence of flashiness. Looking back on our votes, I feel no regrets on the games we’ve picked to represent 2009. It’s a shame that games like Assassin’s Creed II and Left 4 Dead 2 were not included…but 2009 as a whole has been our best year in terms of coverage as we’ve emphasized in the podcast. Also, I’m personally disappointed in some of the picks made by major media sites. I’ll mention some examples: Assassin’s Creed 2 winning best Xbox 360 game, Tiger Woods 2009 Wii gets nominated over the likes of MadWorld, The Conduit, etc; Big Bang Mini for the DS as a nomination, and the list goes on. The biggest mistake everyone has been making by far is nominating multiplatform games for individual platform awards. It just does not make sense to me at all. Doing this downplays the importance and significance of exclusives given that multiplatform releases have basically diluted the industry. I’m glad we’ve separated multiplatform games from exclusive games. That way, most of 2009’s releases have a better chance to shine.
Anyway, let’s cut the rant short and get to the main topic of this post: extending our deadline to vote for your choices! January 15th, 2009 will be your last chance to speak up and pick what you think is best. The more votes, the better. I’m sure once the holidays wear off some of you will have more time to take a look at our polls, hence the extension. Simply scroll over the polls menu on our dashboard to get 3 individual pages for voting. Let’s get to it, guys!
