Blog Spring Cleaning 2010!
I hope you’ve been enjoying all the post-E3 coverage, people. I know I have. Our guys have worked their butts off to get their hands on the latest games, chatting up with developers, and finally uploading the media to the site.
Let’s state the obvious: some site redesigning. WordPress 3.0 has recently been released, and thankfully the transition has been smooth. It actually fixed up some of the bugs we have on the site. The biggest feature is by far the custom menus. Site dashboards are no longer limited to pages anymore; mixing and matching between links, individual pages, and categories is such a long-overdue feature. We previously had to struggle to display external links in the dashboard. Now it’s no longer an issue.
Custom menus triggered two other major changes to our site: removing the clutter and eliminating repetition. Thus, we’re back to the one column setup. Don’t get me wrong; two columns are great and all, but now that we have a dashboard that can display anything…then we need to free up space for the posts themselves. As you can see, our posts can breathe right now.
I’m still in the process of experimentation so feel free to criticize and suggest anything that comes to mind. The next step is to fill up the annoying free space in our sidebar, but we need some convenient new widgets to do so.
BTW, I know the dashboard looks cluttered and slightly unorganized right now, but it’s out of my hands. There are a couple of ones that expand to subcategories, and if I put those in the top row the expansions look really ugly. The only alternative right now is to put the expanding menus in the bottom menu.
Dont worry, keep the good work guys i trust you will do the best you can, and so far so good, one thing though, iam still waiting for your impressions on the 3DS, but i can wait keep doing the extreme makeover site edition :)
