Gears of War 3 Significantly Delayed

In news that doesn’t really surprise me, Microsoft released a statement to the media which pretty well says it all.

Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011.  The teams at Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games have done great work thus far readying the title for release in the Spring of 2011. However, we’ve elected to move the launch of Gears of War 3 until Fall 2011 to make it the marquee title for the holiday season.

Steven and I were just talking about this the other day.  We were both under the impression Gears 3 was going to launch this holiday, but were surprised when we realized it was April of next year.  Now it looks like Microsoft wants G3 to be their big holiday 2011 release.  Honestly, can you blame them?

How do you feel about this news?

    1. I had a feeling MS would do this. They want to make sure they space out their huge releases. This also gives them a huge title to go up against whatever Sony dishes out for next holiday season.

  1. Altho it is the way of the gaming business it sucks when u finaly want to finish the trilogy hehe

    1. Yes it sure does suck. Besides I can’t see this even ending the series. Much like Halo, I have a feeling Gears will continue long after Gears of War 3. It’s a money making business and this series has made some serious bank. It would be foolish to simply let it die. We shall see though, but I seriously doubt this will be the final game in the series.

  2. Well Epic does have Bulletstorm in the works after all. Releasing both games around the same timeframe is a big no-no…so delaying the bigger game for a more tactical launch is a wise move. Yet why do I have this big feeling that Gears 3 will be the 360’s swansong?

  3. @Jarrod Nichol: well i sadly forgot my password and tried to many times hehe but altho they will probly make side stories related gow or a prequel to probly why marcus went to jail or what not *Speculation*!!! the main story should end with 3 i hope i hate when things drag on too long , just like halo altho the story line was original and all there is just something about milking a franchise that i get bored of lol even as amazing of a game halo was!!!

    1. I hate it when companies drag franchises. I know a new IP is a hard sell, but at the end of the day I love being surprised by the originality of original IPs. I’m thinking of BioShock, Uncharted, etc.

  4. it is okey to me and i dont blame them, right now next year seems a little bit crowded too, like this year, to many tittles to little money T_T, i appreciate this news well my wallet instead of me 8D
