Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded Hits The DS On January 11th, 2011

In a somewhat surprising announcement this evening, Square-Enix has just confirmed that Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded will launch for the Nintendo DS on January 11th, 2011.  Re: Coded features heavy plot elements formed in the PSP’s Birth By Sleep.

I must admit that I’m fairly surprised by all the portable Kingdom Hearts titles these past few years.  Anyone else wondering what’s taking so long for Kingdom Hearts III?

  1. Glad that this mobile-exclusive is getting a wider release. I’m still a bit skeptical about the gameplay, but it’s good to have these handheld titles that keep us sane until KH3. Re: coded will obviously be cut down presentation-wise, but Birth By Sleep is pretty much a console title so it’s all good.

KH3 is sort of on the back-burner according to Nomura. His team is too busy with multiple projects, Versus XIII being the most highly anticipated.

  2. I still want KHIII :( I loved the two console versions, and while I have no doubt Birth By Sleep is as close to a console version as is currently possible on a portable, I wanted to see a current-gen KH title SO badly. Imagine in glorious 1080p with surround sound. Drool!
