NPD Numbers For September 2010

So by now you likely know that the NPD will no longer give us any hard numbers.  Yes it sucks, but thankfully we have Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony to fill in the blanks…whenever they feel like it that is.  We know the top ten software titles, but we know longer know the SKU breakdown so fanboys, your flaming days appear to be over.  Here are the top ten selling titles for September 2010.

1) Halo Reach (360)
2) Madden NFL 11 (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP)
3) Dead RIsing 2 (360, PS3, PC)
4) NHL 11 (360, PS3)
5) FIFA 11 (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, NDS)
6) Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP)
7) Mafia II (360, PS3, PC)
8] Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (PS3, 360, NDS, Wii)
9) Metroid: Other M (Wii)
10) Modern Warfare 2 (360, PS3, PC)

Notice how they combine all the SKUs together? That really makes it hard to gauge just how well a title did on any one platform. Is Shattered Dimensions doing better on the PS3, 360 or the Wii?  A few notes to make here include Birth by Sleep coming in at #6.  When is the last time a PSP title make it into the top ten?  Yeah, a while.

Thanks to Microsoft we also know that Halo Reach sold 3.3 million units in September.  Not too shabby if I do say so myself.  In terms of hardware, all we know is that Microsoft was the big winner of the month selling 484,000 systems.  If you’re wondering how the Move did, the NPD says that all bundles made it into the top ten for system add-ons.  Yes, that’s completely useless to us.  I do hope Nintendo and Sony release monthly numbers, but somehow I think we’ll only hear numbers when they’re amazing.  In other words, whomever is in first place, expect to hear more info from them at that point in time.

  1. The PSP made the top 10 not too long ago with the awesome MGS: Peace Walker.

But what surprises me is that Modern Warfare 2 is in the top 10!

    1. Keep in mind ts is combined SKUs so taken individually who knows how it sold. For example, New Super Mario Bros. made the top ten if we look at everything separated. I hate these new numbers as we really don’t see the whole truth.

As for the PSP, I thought Peace Walker sales were disappointing which is why we wanted to get the digital download numbers as well.
