Readers’ Choice 2010 Awards Log — Week 2, Day 5: Guy Gaming!

1) No remakes or enhanced ports allowed (unless noted).

2) If you vote for “Other”, you must specify the game in our comments section or else it will be nullified.

3) Deadline is January 4th, 2011.

You know what that means, right? Stereotyping! All guys love sports games and racers! Beer-chugging, college frat boys that play Madden all day are more than welcome to vote for it in our polls. For more sophisticated gamers (looks like I offended half of my viewership now), there have been other cool sports offerings this year. I, for one, am taken aback by the quality of Pro Evolution Soccer 2011. Finally, a true next-gen update for the series, unlike the previous two iterations which were PS2-like in quality. Don’t get me wrong, FIFA 2011 is just as good, but it’s not really my cup of tea as the controls are arcade-like in nature despite the complexity in formation settings and single-player gaming. Additionally, I find this year’s version to be almost identical to 2010 aside from the bland and boring inclusion of playing as the goalkeeper.

Soccer games aside, there are many motion-based games nominated for best sports as well. Sure, the Kinect offerings are fresh and new, but I’m surprised that there hasn’t been much attention to Tiger Woods 2011 for the PS3 since it’s Move-compatible. I hear its controls are even better than the Wii version.

As for Racers, we’ve also gotten a rather solid line-up this year. Mario Kart fans must’ve enjoyed games such as Blur and Modnation Racers, the latter of which has extensive creation tools in addition to the splitscreen/online modes. Hardcore fans aren’t counted out either since GT5 has finally been released this year with simulation racing. The folks over at EA, on the other hand, went for the adrenaline-pumping ultimate arcade experience with rival series Need for Speed, bringing back the Hot Pursuit name that has been dead for so long.

  1. I think GT5 will get screwed with the awards it deserves cause it came in too late in the year.
