Marvel Releases Captain America Movie Poster
Steven might give me crap, but honestly there’s not very much I can say about this except that it looks like a pretty nice poster O_o The movie stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough. It’ll hit cinemas everywhere in both 2D and 3D on July 22nd. Let’s look at that poster already, I know, I hear ya.
Just to make Steven a bit happy I’ll briefly talk about my love for the Captain America comic. The series has been wonderfully handled by Ed Brubaker for the past several years and it’s my favourite superhero book along with Amazing Spider-Man. I have read Spidey forever now, but with Cap it’s a bit different. I was never really a huge fan of him. He was “the leader of the Avengers” and that’s how I thought of him.
When Brubaker re-launched the series with Captain America #1 Vol. 5 in 2004 it really changed the way I looked at the character. Here we had hybrid stories clearly showing flashbacks of WWII and an interesting and well woven story taking place in the modern setting. Eventually we received the excellent tale of the death of Steve Rogers and how Bucky, his wartime ally, would take on the mantle as the new Captain America. While the return of Steve Rogers was extremely anti-climatic, the fact that Bucky remained Cap was extremely interesting. Even today he’s still the new Cap and the ongoing arc is quite interesting. Bucky is on trial for his previous sins as the Winter Soldier. Essentially after he and Steve were knocked into the ocean towards the end of WWII, the Soviets found Bucky and brainwashed him into the perfect killer. He now stands trial for those crimes he committed. It’s all very interesting stuff and the fact Brubaker has been able to keep my attention for these past seven years is remarkable.
I’m worried what this movie will do to one of my favourite superhero books. Will Steve Rogers retake the mantle or will Marvel continue to have Bucky serve? Whatever happens, so long as Ed Brubaker is at the helm I’m sure everything will turn out fine.
Now back to the movie. Are any of you looking forward to The First Avenger: Captain America? If so let us know by leaving a comment, and if I somehow convince you to pick up the comic series either in trade paperback format or in the monthly series, you HAVE to let me know what you think of the series.

In the poster its not so bad, but I’ve seen screens of the film and he looks ridiculous in that costume! I think this is an instance where they should have been a bit more creative and build something that makes sense in the real world.
