What would you do with $8.5 billion burning a hole in your pocket?  That’s right, you’d buy Skype!  You know Skype, yes that’s right, that Skype.  The app that let’s you talk to people all over the world.  It seems like only yesterday when Skype launched, but today there are so many people that use this application on their home computers and mobile devices that it boggles the mind.  They also use it on their Xbox 360s and Kinect sensors.  Hey, wait a sec.  After today’s announcement they’ll be able to do just that.  It would appear Microsoft has very big plans for their new purchase.  Here’s what the company announced earlier this morning.

Skype will support Microsoft devices like Xbox and Kinect, Windows Phone and a wide array of Windows devices, and Microsoft will connect Skype users with Lync, Outlook, Xbox Live and other communities.

For all those out there that use Skype on devices such as the PSP, Microsoft will keep those applications running…at least for now. It’s kind of funny how there’s now an app on the PSP that Microsoft will be in control of. What a crazy and wonderful world we live in, isn’t it?
