Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Details Emerge

Update by Ahmed Mosly: here’s the official non-revealing teaser trailer. At least Infinity Ward acknowledges the sequel’s existence.

Kotaku has a whole set of stories up this morning that reveal just about everything there is to reveal about the forthcoming Modern Warfare 3.  Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software are hard at work on putting the finishing touches on what will surely be one of the biggest games of 2011.  Instead of regurgitating what Kotaku wrote, I recommend you hit up the link provided.  I strongly believe in giving credit where credit is due and these guys went out of their way to get their sources to talk and to compile all the information leaked in one tidy location.  That said, I also like to give our readers the latest and greatest news so I’ve compiled everything together in point form for your reading pleasure.

–       Projected release date: November 8th, 2011 for every platform you can imagine.

–       Game begins seconds after Modern Warfare 2.

–       Players will play in various locations around the world including New York, Paris, London and Dubai.

–       There are currently 15 missions in the single-player campaign

–       Online multiplayer returns and bigger and badder than ever before

Every other article Kotaku has up reveal tons of spoilers and to be frank, I really don’t want to spoil the game for myself.  If you’re interested hit this link.  Remember, it is filled with spoilers and could ruin your enjoyment of a potentially awesome title.  You’ve been warned.

I know a lot of people have said they’re getting tired of the yearly releases, but the honest truth is these games are the biggest sellers in the industry and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.  While we might talk the talk, we don’t walk the walk.  I have little doubt that if everything turns out as planned, this could break the record set by Black Ops only because of all the intrigue and mystery surrounding the game.  Are you interested in Modern Warfare 3 and if so, will you be there on day one?

  1. I never liked the call of duty series. My main reason being cause I prefer single player campaigns over online and I always hated that you play one character then switch to another and don’t know what you’re doing or why.

Black Ops on the other hand was definetly one of my favorite single player FPS campaigns! Because of that, I will take a close look when it comes out but still won’t be buying it day 1.

  2. Well I’m not reading the story spoiler material. But now it’s going to be hard to do that when I DO want to know some details, especially about gameplay changes/improvements and what the multiplayer is like.

  3. I just browsed the link to see how long this is, but I have no idea how Kotaku can live with themselves with a stupid leak such as this. I mean seriously…storyline details? Seriously Kotaku? Anything to get a surge of views? I don’t mind screenshots, new gameplay mechanics, multiplayer details…but leaking the whole setup of the campaign? I like Kotaku and all, but whoever authorized this is dumb.

    1. Agreed. It completely takes the fun out of playing the game. Then again, 99.9/100 people don’t even bother with the campaign :P Maybe when CoD Online launches that won’t be quite so much the case for future console releases.

      1. In my opinion, the campaigns of CoD games took a serious nosedive after the first Modern Warfare. That offered the most variety in gameplay. Others, including Black Ops, seemed so generic to me. We’ll see if Modern Warfare 3 holds up with the help of those other developers. If not, then West and Zampella will laugh their butts off for sure.

  4. Interesting trailer, and a lot like the one that was used to tease the MW2 reveal. And while the logo for the game is interesting, I think it looks stupid.

I actually think this trailer in an indirect way plays off what the villain from the first game says if you don’t access the main menu immediately.

“As they lay waste to our country…we will lay waste to theirs.”

Sounds like their plan is coming to fruition. And I do like the fact that the game at least takes place in America, if not finishes there altogether.

  5. I too was surprised that Kotaku authorized this story. I linked to it, but refused to post any spoiler information. I’m shocked they were able to get the entire storyline. Anyways, very surprised by this just the same.

  6. You know I’ve never played Halo that much, and had actually not played the Xbox for years until my son got me playing MW2. Can’t wait for the release of this one.
