PSN Ramifications: Welcome Back Games, Missed Weekly Updates, Infamous 2 Beta, etc!

After a turbulent return yesterday due to the insane amount of traffic, PSN is finally back all over the world except for Japan (due to legal issues). While people are still waiting for their passwords to be sent via e-mail, most hardcore users who have previously used the PS Store are lucky enough to get online and validate their passwords directly through the PS3 console. Now that the dust has settled, it’s time to know what Sony’s planning to make up for this fine mess.

1) Free Games: the lists will differ from region to region, but here are what North America and Europe are offering for the PS3 and PSP. Note that North America has the increased benefit of offering free movie rentals and music. Remember, you may only choose two freebies in each console from the following:

Sony Computer Entertainment EUROPE:

Two PS3 games from the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Infamous*
  • Wipeout HD/Fury
  • Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty
  • Dead Nation*

For those with PSP accounts, you will also be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list:

  • LittleBigPlanet PSP
  • ModNation PSP
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation*

Sony Computer Entertainment AMERICA:

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • Dead Nation
  • inFAMOUS
  • LittleBigPlanet
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

  • LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
  • ModNation Racers
  • Pursuit Force
  • Killzone Liberation

A selection of “On Us” rental movie titles will be available to PlayStation Network customers over one weekend, where Video Service is available. Those titles will be announced soon.

Existing Music Unlimited Premium Trial subscription members will receive an additional 30 days of free premium subscription.

Additional 30 days + time lost for existing members of Music Unlimited Premium/Basic subscription free of charge for existing Premium/Basic members.

2) Non-PS Plus members will get a 30-day free trial of the services, while current PS Plus subscribers get a 2 month extension. PS Plus offers and discounts will simply pick up where it last left off despite the missing weeks.

3) In order for the missed weekly releases to become up-to-speed, Sony will alter it’s schedule and offer bi-weekly updates. I like this a lot. We’re going to see a TON of releases!

4) There’s talks of the inFAMOUS 2 beta being extended. Sadly, fans barely got to try out its features since the PSN fiasco was so close to it. Sucker Punch are currently evaluating what to do. My prediction is that they’ll extend the beta but further delay its official release date to July so that everyone gets to play it. Zipper also suffered since SOCOM 4 was released during the outage and that game totally depended on its online players for support. They’ll also be trying to re-engage the disappointed fans with something special.

The only two major questions left are: how we redeem the free games and when will the PS Store be back online? I’m hoping for a launch tomorrow but knowing Sony I’m expecting a full week until they get their crap together.

  1. So…how does this stuff apply to someone such as myself? I haven’t played a game on my PS3 in who knows how long, or PSP. Will I be able to get any of these freebies?

  2. Everyone with a valid PSN ID will be eligible for these freebies Justin, that includes you. You have 30 days from the time the PS Store is restored to activate your 30-day PSN+ subscription, and to download your games. Those games are permanent and will not be taken away after the 30-day trial. You can download two PS3 games, and two PSP games.

  3. Damn! Sony really went far to get my appreciation back. They have it, for sure. Far more than Microsoft has ever done for me….*glares at my third Xbox 360*

  4. Yeah Tim! I was really expecting 1 game only and to be part of the 30 day PSN + trial.

This is much better than I expected! Even ppl who didn’t even use their PS3 get free shit! “cough, Justin, cough” :)
