What’s Got Kojima-San So Down?

Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear Solid series appears to be slightly under the weather lately.  He uses Twitter often, even more so than Ahmed ;)  Just take a look at a few of the things he’s posted over the last few days.

“I cannot bear, and cannot be positive.”

He then continued later on.

“What I prepared minutely spending a year became meaningless.”

One can only assume that a game he has been working on has just been canceled.  How can this be you say, well to be perfectly honest, no one is impervious to lacklustre sales and tough economic times.  I’m a huge fan of Kojima-san, but Peace Walker didn’t sell as well as everyone had hoped.  That said, it did move an impressive 1.6 million units worldwide, which is around 600,000 more than Portable Ops. Apparently Konami expected more from the game, much more.

So what does this all mean.  It likely means a few things.  For one, where is Rising? We haven’t heard from the game in months now.  I doubt Konami would cancel such a high-profile game.  There was that mysterious other project Kojima-san was working on which we never really learned much about.  Could it be Z.O.E. 3?  I sure hope not.  What about Project S? I think we’re all going to have to wait until E3 to get a better understanding of exactly what’s going on.

It’s sad when a powerful and highly influential creator such as Hideo Kojima has one of his projects canned, but it just goes to show you that no one is safe in these trying times.

  1. “What I prepared minutely spending a year became meaningless.”
I think he was working in something to tight up the PSN security system.
