Ever since Double Fine used Kickstarter to get their latest old-school adventure game off the ground, suddenly major developers around the world have taken notice and all kinds of awesome projects are beginning to pop up. The latest is from Fallout-Executive Producer Brian Fargo, and is a sequel to the granddaddy of PC RPGs, Wasteland. Wasteland was actually the inspiration behind the original Fallout. Here’s what Kickstarter has to say about the new game.
For Wasteland 2, we’re getting the band back together again!. Brian Fargo who Executive Produced both Wasteland and Fallout will be heading the team. Alan Pavlish and Mike Stackpole—the original game’s primary designers—are coming back to put the project together, and we’re rounding up as many of the other designers, like Ken St. Andre, as we can. On top of that, we’ll have music by Mark Morgan of Fallout 1 and 2 fame. The storyline for Wasteland 2 was written by Jason Anderson who was the co-creator of Fallout. We have also enlisted the help of the amazing concept artist, Andree Wallin to help craft the Wasteland 2 world.
Currently the group is asking for $900,000, which makes sense given the type of game it is. They’re currently at $131,454, with 34 days to go. If you’re a fan of old-school RPGs and miss those days of simple, yet challenging RPGs with interesting twists and turns then you may just want to denote a little cash to inXile Entertainment’s project. I’ve already pledged support for the new Double Fine adventure game, and I’ve just done the same with this one. I’m a huge fan of the indie scene, and this acts something like a hybrid between fans making games they’ve always wanted to make, and actually experienced developers making games no publisher alive would ever allow them to. I’m very excited to see where this leads in the future. Maybe a Kickstarter COE project!
