Marvel Heroes Debut Gameplay Trailer

Marvel Heroes, by Gazillion Entertainment is shaping up quite nicely.  Here’s the debut gameplay trailer for your viewing pleasure.

As Steven would say, what can we take away from the trailer?  Well how about we talk a little about what this game is all about first.  It’s a free-to-play MMO, but unlike World of Warcraft and the countless other clones out there, this one plays much more like Diablo.  That makes sense too, since the David Brevik, who co-founded Blizzard North, the studio that created Diablo is overseeing the project.  I suppose I should also mention that as of writing this article, we have no idea what kind of micro-transaction system will be put in place, but rest assured this free-to-play adventure will eventually cost players something ;)

Now let’s analyze the trailer with what we already know.  This is clearly an action RPG, and will include randomized loot, and dungeon/combat areas.  The action will be viewed with an overhead camera, and from the trailer it sure looks like Doctor Doom is going to be the main antagonist.  The story will obviously feature the Cosmic Cube in some fashion, and playable characters we know of thus far include Captain America, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Scarlet Witch, Iron Man, Black Widow, Wolverine, Magneto, Hulk, and Colossus.  I’m sure I might have missed some others in the trailer, so let me know who that is by leaving a comment.

Normally I’m not too into these sorts of games with comic properties because I find it very hard to capture the essence of what makes these characters to appealing in a limited group game.  If the Scarlet Witch is present shouldn’t she be able to simply utter the words “finish the game” and that’s it, it ends?

Given the free-to-play nature I might check this out once my lovely new computer arrives.  Until that time though, what are your thoughts on this?  Just another lame action RPG, or does this have potential to become something special?

  1. Why are they calling this an MMO, Jarrod? Looks like a Diablo clone to me man. Which is not a bad thing, but it’s an action RPG at it’s core. By the video at least

  2. Yeah Tim I hear you. I think the big difference being that the game will adapt to your group. So with Diablo you have a certain number of people that could play with you, here it’s the only way to play. The world will be filled with different heroes, powers, etc. I think we’ll find out more info at E3 though, or at least that’s what I’m hoping for.
