Torchlight 2 Set for September 20th Release

If you were a fan of the original Torchlight, either on your computer, or via Xbox Live Arcade, I’ve got some good news for you.  The much anticipated sequel is officially set for release on September 20th.  The news will be bittersweet to the XBLA fans though, as this release date is only for PC.  Steam has been running an incredible deal for some time now where anyone who pre-ordered Torchlight II for $20 would receive the original game for absolutely free.  That’s a $15 savings, and the deal is still running right now so be sure to check it out if you’ve never played Torchlight before.

For those wondering, the big addition to Torchlight II is co-op play, which is something that was sorely missing from the original.  Torchlight is an action RPG that’s extremely similar to Diablo, which makes perfect sense since the game’s developer, Runic Games, was formed by two of the three co-founders of Blizzard North, along with Travis Baldree (the creator of Fate) and Peter Hu (responsible for Mythos).  In other words, there are some really talented people over at Runic Games, and it shows.  The original Torchlight was an excellent game, only missing a robust co-op experience that likely would have put it over the top.

So here we are, we finally have a release date, and I couldn’t be any more pleased.  I sure hope it comes together as well as the first one did.
