Plays Like: If Super Mario, Mega Man and Contra had a baby, it would be named Gunman Clive.

Review Basis: Completed the eShop version twice, and currently working my way through a third play-through.

The Great: Amazingly fun and simple, yet challenging at the same time. There’s only 20 levels here, with each lasting no more than a minute or two.  Still, you’ll keep coming back for more.  It’s refreshing to find a game that let’s you play as soon as you press start.  It doesn’t make you watch a pointless cutscene, nor does it make you read dialogue or give you any kind of tutorial whatsoever.  All you need to do is reach the end and try not to die.  It’s an old-school action platformer and I couldn’t be happier.

The Good:

+ Retro visuals that work perfectly. Charming to look at and fits the game like a glove.

+ Perfect portable game. Play it for a few minutes during breaks, or on the train or whenever you have some spare time and finish later.

+ Challenging. While easy won’t give you any trouble, normal and hard will really make you work to get to the finish line.

+ Three different characters (one hilarious unlockable), three different way to play the game. You have to beat it with every character, and you’ll want to do so since you won’t be able top put the game down.

+ Great variety of levels. All inspired by classic games.

+ All this for only $2.

The So-So:

+/- It’s a bit on the short side, but for the price, you can’t complain too much. Better it be over quick then long and boring.

Gunman Clive2The Lowdown:

Gunman Clive is a must-buy game if you own a 3DS. There’s no way around it. Get it now!

Final Score: 9.0/10
