Breaking: Mass Effect 2 Coming To PlayStation 3

Are you a PS3 fanboy?  Do you yearn for an RPG experience unlike any other?  If you never had the opportunity to check out Mass Effect on the Xbox 360, well you should find a way to remedy that right away.  That game won’t be going to the PlayStation 3 anytime soon as it was published by Microsoft.  That changed with Mass Effect 2.  That means that EA and BioWare are bringing all you PS3 fans one of the year’s best RPGs…no scratch that, best games period, to the PS3.  The PS3 version will include all the downloadable content directly on the disc, so you won’t have any need to download anything.  Just put the game in, and enjoy.  It remains to be seen exactly how the transfer data will work from the original game, but I would assume they’ll just remove that and start from scratch.  Who knows, perhaps the PS3 version will have a recap story or something.  We’ll have much more info in the coming weeks and months leading up to its release.  If you’re a PS3 fan, you should be extremely happy right now.

Massive EA Report From Gamescom 2010

EA announced a whole bunch of interesting news today.  Instead of posting a bunch of different posts with boring press releases, I figured it would be more logical to just compile them all together into one long boring post with a bunch of press releases ;)  Truth be told, there’s some interesting stuff in here like being able to be a goalkeeper in FIFA Soccer 11, or the fact that David Beckham is now an EA brand ambassador, whatever that means.  They also revealed the ship date for Dragon Age 2, and announced a couple of special editions for their bigger releases for later this year and next.  Give everything a quick read through and let me know what you think of the news.

Now Fans Can Play as the Goalkeeper in EA SPORTS FIFA Soccer 11

All 22 Players on the Pitch Can Be Human Controlled in Online Team Play

COLOGNE, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced today that EA SPORTSTM has developed a new feature called Be A Goalkeeper for FIFA Soccer 11 that will enable fans to experience the thrill of playing as the keeper, and for the first time in a soccer videogame, will place control of all 22 players on the pitch in human hands. The new feature will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system when FIFA Soccer 11 is available in stores September 28 in North America and October 1 in Europe and Asia.

Chelsea FC and Czech Republic goalkeeper Petr Čech has been signed as the spokesperson for Be A Goalkeeper and will be featured in advertising, marketing and promotional campaigns.

Be A Goalkeeper is a completely new way to play—instead of thinking as a player out in the middle of the pitch, you have to think and react as the goalkeeper. Experience the thrill of the one on one battle, making the great save from a free kick, punching balls safely out of danger, the pressure of the corner, and most importantly, keeping a clean sheet. Be A Goalkeeper features three levels of accessibility with varying degrees of AI assistance—assisted, semi-assisted and fully manual. Fans will be able to compete as the goalie in Career Mode and enjoy a 15-year career or create themselves as the goalie in Virtual Pro 2.0 to learn the position, track stats, complete achievements and test themselves against the best players in the virtual world.

With control of the keeper now in human hands FIFA Soccer 11 will deliver an authentic replication of soccer online with 11 vs. 11 Online Team Play that locks people into the role of a single, fixed player the entire game. Now up to 11 friends on different consoles will be able to select and take control of their own individual players on the same team to compete against up to 11 rivals of another team.

“The phenomenal growth of online gaming and the desire of our fans to be able to play as the goalie was the driving force behind this innovation for FIFA Soccer 11,” said Kaz Makita, Executive Producer, EA SPORTS FIFA. “Friends can play alongside each other in their pro clubs with all 11 virtual players on the pitch human controlled. We have finally replicated football in the virtual world.”

Over 750 million online connected games have been played since FIFA Soccer 10 launched last October and over 350,000 pro clubs have been created that enable friends to compete alongside each other against rival clubs. Pro Clubs is one of the most popular online game modes in FIFA.

FIFA Soccer 11 reinvents player authenticity – on and off the ball – for every position on the pitch with Personality+, and introduces new Pro Passing where pass accuracy is determined by a gamer’s ability on the control pad, and player skill, situation and urgency on the pitch. Plus, experience true freedom in man-to-man interactions with 360° Fight for Possession that transforms physical play from just lateral jostling to full 360° collisions.

Visit http://www.facebook.com/easportsfifa to join the EA SPORTS FIFA Facebook group or visit WWW.FIFA.EASPORTS.COM for more information about the game. New game modes and innovations will be revealed later this month. Screenshots are available at http://info.ea.com.

FIFA Soccer 11 will be available for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, Wii™, PC, PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Nintendo DS™, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system and mobile. It will be available on the Wii in North America on Oct. 4. FIFA 11 is developed under the EA SPORTS brand by EA Canada in Burnaby, B.C. The game has not yet been rated.

EA Wields Its Magic Adding Kinect Mode to Its Upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 Videogame

COLOGNE, Germany–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The EA Play Label of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced that the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows™- Part 1 videogame will have an exclusive KinectTM for Xbox 360® experience with unique challenges that puts more power into players’ hands.

With all of the action taking place outside of Hogwarts for the first time, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 sees Harry on the run with a horde of merciless enemies on his tail. Players will find themselves in unknown territory, far from the safety of the school grounds, fighting for survival at every turn. The new game engine, built specifically to leverage the technology of HD consoles, ensures high definition graphics and intense action gameplay on all platforms while the Kinect experience on Xbox 360 offers exclusive challenges, for either single player or two player co-op, playing as Harry, Ron or Hermione.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 is non-stop action with Harry defending himself against a host of menacing enemies,” said Jonathan Bunney, Vice President and Head of Production at EA Bright Light Studios. “Our Kinect challenges allow players to literally cast magic from the palm of their hand, completely controller free, to enhance and deepen the overall play experience; and, even better, we have enabled a special co-op mode with Kinect allowing two people to fight Death Eaters side-by-side for the first time in any Harry Potter game.”

The Kinect experience in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 gives players the ability to get closer to the action than ever before, using physical gestures to cast magic through the screen and defeat their deadly opponents. In co-op mode, the fluid targeting system and leaderboard scoring add a competitive edge to the excitement.

Under development by EA Bright Light Studio, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 will be available this autumn on Kinect for Xbox 360™, PlayStation®3, Wii™, Nintendo DS™, PC, and mobile devices.

About the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 film

Part 1 begins as Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on their perilous mission to track down and destroy the secret to Voldemort’s immortality and destruction—the Horcruxes. On their own, without the guidance of their professors or the protection of Professor Dumbledore, the three friends must now rely on one another more than ever. But there are Dark Forces in their midst that threaten to tear them apart.

Meanwhile, the wizarding world has become a dangerous place for all enemies of the Dark Lord. The long-feared war has begun and Voldemort’s Death Eaters seize control of the Ministry of Magic and even Hogwarts, terrorizing and arresting anyone who might oppose them. But the one prize they still seek is the one most valuable to Voldemort: Harry Potter. The Chosen One has become the hunted one as the Death Eaters search for Harry with orders to bring him to Voldemort…alive.

Harry’s only hope is to find the Horcruxes before Voldemort finds him. But as he searches for clues, he uncovers an old and almost forgotten tale—the legend of the Deathly Hallows. And if the legend turns out to be true, it could give Voldemort the ultimate power he seeks.

Little does Harry know that his future has already been decided by his past when, on that fateful day, he became “the Boy Who Lived.” No longer just a boy, Harry Potter is drawing ever closer to the task for which he has been preparing since the day he first stepped into Hogwarts: the ultimate battle with Voldemort.

Microsoft Announces Plans To Resurge PC Gaming With Age Of Empires Online!

If you’re a PC gamer, it’s pretty clear where Microsoft’s intentions lay, smack dab on the Xbox 360.  Now that’s fine for the console gamers, but for the last few years it’s sure felt that Microsoft was losing focus on their oldest asset, PC gamers.  Today they announced plans to change that, by announcing Age of Empires Online, which promises to be the first in a long list of first party titles they plan to bring to the Windows platform.  I’d say it’s about bloody time.  Games for Windows may have been a failed attempt to take over Steam, but if they continue to put achievements in their games, something may come of it down the road.  Their main problem has been the complete lack of games being released for Windows.  Hopefully that changes moving forward.

Microsoft Blows The Lid Off Windows Phone 7 – A Phone With Xbox Live Achievements

I think it’s time our very own Steven Lacroix enters the smartphone buying business.  He’s by far the most addicted fan of the achievement system here at COE.  Today Microsoft revealed the line-up of titles it has being prepared for its latest software for smart phones, Windows Phone 7 series.  I already talked a bit about this in my previous phone article, but this time around we have even more information.  I’ve compiled everything together into one nice long press release, thanks to MS.  The information is from Gamescom 2010, which is going on right now in Europe.  Thanks to the time zones, I’m only getting this information now though.  Anyways, what do you all think of being able to add to your Gamerscore via a phone?  Pretty nuts no?

The Games You Want, Played When and Wherever You Want Them

In a sea of games, apps, gadgets and gizmos, the biggest obstacle can be finding the game that’s right for you. Xbox LIVE games on Windows Phone 7 will be specially selected from the top names in mobile, PC and console game development, making the best mobile games even better, thanks to Xbox LIVE. With try-before-you-buy demos, Xbox LIVE leaderboards, turn-based multiplayer, Achievements and more, Windows Phone 7 brings the quality, consistency and community of the Xbox experience to gamers on the go.

Windows Phone 7 also will be supported by content from Microsoft Game Studios (MGS), providing strong first-party gaming titles and intellectual property for the phone. For Xbox fans, this means that Windows Phone 7 will offer companion titles to familiar names, such as “Halo: Waypoint,” and “Crackdown 2,” extending the experience of their favorite Xbox 360 franchises.

“Windows Phone 7 is the launch of a major gaming platform for Microsoft,” said Matt Booty, general manager of mobile gaming for MGS. “Just like we’ve done with Xbox 360, our charter is to push the envelope and deliver definitive games that maximize the platform. We will have an incredible lineup of MGS titles, and that’s just the beginning.”

The most creative minds in game development are bringing the biggest franchises to Windows Phone 7. Achievements. Earn, view and track Achievements, view Xbox LIVE leaderboards and build your Gamerscore across Xbox 360 and Windows Phone 7 — every time you play an Xbox LIVE title.
Messaging. Communicate with all of your Xbox LIVE friends, any time you want, through Xbox LIVE messages.
Multiplayer. Invite, connect and play against friends on other Windows Phone 7 phones or the PC with turn-based (asynchronous) multiplayer gaming.
