Top Ten Games Of Jan. 2011 Revealed

The good folks at the NPD Group have just revealed the top telling games of January 2011.  Now that they don’t reveal actual numbers, and they combine SKUs it’s extremely hard to figure out just how well some games have sold.  That being said, here’s a quick look at the best selling games from the first month of the year.

01. Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, Wii, DS, PC) – Activision
02. Just Dance 2 (Wii) – Ubisoft
03. Dead Space 2 (360, PS3, PC) – EA
04. LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3) – Sony
05. Zumba Fitness: Join the Party (Wii, 360, PS3) – Majesco
06. NBA 2K11 (360, PS3, PSP, Wii, PS2, PC) – Take-Two
07. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (360, PS3) – Ubisoft
08. Dance Central (360) – Microsoft
09. Michael Jackson: The Experience (Wii, DS, PSP) – Ubisoft
10. DC Universe Online (PS3, PC) – Sony

There’s some surprising games here.  Jackson’s game appears to have done fairly well for itself, as did Dance Central, DC Universe Online and LittleBigPlanet 2.  I really wanted to know how well EA’s Dead Space 2 sold because that game was superb.  I’m really shocked by the number two ranking game, Just Dance 2 because it pales in comparison to Dance Central. Then again…maybe I shouldn’t be saying that O_o

Not very much to add except that Black Ops is still brining in the dough.  This post was a good trial run to ensure everything was working with the site and to get some comments going.  What have you guys got to say about the latest sales?  I’ll update with console numbers if and when I get them.  I’ll also be sure to add my witty comments at that time ;)

November NPD Numbers Released

It’s that time again when we let you know just how well your favorite consoles are selling.  Before we get to that, let’s take a look at the highest selling game for November 2010.  I’ll give you one guess.  What’s that, you said Black Ops, well guess what you’re right!  In fact the game sold a whopping 8.4 million copies making it the seventh highest selling game of all time.  It’s only been on the market for a month!  Imagine how well it’ll perform in the coming weeks leading up to Christmas.  Ouch!  Here’s the complete top ten.

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
  • Just Dance 2
  • Madden NFL 11
  • Fable III
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns
  • Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
  • Gran Turismo 5
  • NBA 2K11
  • Wii Fit Plus
  • Given the way the NPD hands out the information, we no longer know just how well each of these games sold.  What we do know are how many consoles have been sold.  Microsoft takes charge yet again this month, making it six consecutive months in a row that Microsoft has come out on top in the console race.  The official standings are as such.

    1) Xbox 360 – 1.37 million

    2) Wii – 1.27 million

    3) PlayStation 3 – 530,000

No word on portable sales just yet folks, but rest assured the DS sold billions.  The reason given for the extremely high Xbox sales is thanks to the successful Kinect launch.  The magical sensor has already sold over 2.5 million units thus far.  It might also have something to do with the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

What are your thoughts on the latest sales info?

    NPD Numbers For September 2010

So by now you likely know that the NPD will no longer give us any hard numbers.  Yes it sucks, but thankfully we have Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony to fill in the blanks…whenever they feel like it that is.  We know the top ten software titles, but we know longer know the SKU breakdown so fanboys, your flaming days appear to be over.  Here are the top ten selling titles for September 2010.

    1) Halo Reach (360)
    2) Madden NFL 11 (360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PSP)
    3) Dead RIsing 2 (360, PS3, PC)
    4) NHL 11 (360, PS3)
    5) FIFA 11 (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, NDS)
    6) Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (PSP)
    7) Mafia II (360, PS3, PC)
    8] Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions (PS3, 360, NDS, Wii)
    9) Metroid: Other M (Wii)
    10) Modern Warfare 2 (360, PS3, PC)

Notice how they combine all the SKUs together? That really makes it hard to gauge just how well a title did on any one platform. Is Shattered Dimensions doing better on the PS3, 360 or the Wii?  A few notes to make here include Birth by Sleep coming in at #6.  When is the last time a PSP title make it into the top ten?  Yeah, a while.

Thanks to Microsoft we also know that Halo Reach sold 3.3 million units in September.  Not too shabby if I do say so myself.  In terms of hardware, all we know is that Microsoft was the big winner of the month selling 484,000 systems.  If you’re wondering how the Move did, the NPD says that all bundles made it into the top ten for system add-ons.  Yes, that’s completely useless to us.  I do hope Nintendo and Sony release monthly numbers, but somehow I think we’ll only hear numbers when they’re amazing.  In other words, whomever is in first place, expect to hear more info from them at that point in time.

    Nintendo Dominates December

All I have to say is, take a look at the December NPD sales Nintendo had.

    09. Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360) – 728,500

Now that’s what I call kicking butt!  What do you guys think of all these numbers?
